Holy shit. That car is fun.

As none of you probably remember, I am both searching for a new car AND learning manual. This particular R53, at our resident stealership, was equipped with a 6 speed. That thing was fun! It was so easy to control and (as I am new) I was able to catch it before I stalled. The supercharger makes a great whine, the car pulls amazing and has SOOOOO much low end torque. Unfortunately, the guy wasn't able to come down to our price :(. We'll see...

I test drove a turbo one that had been tuned up a bit by a previous owner, they are really fun, I almost got it too but I wanted rwd and a more dedicated sports car, lol

The build quality is shit, but they're fun enough to overlook it.

I've not yet driven one, but that was my reaction the first time I drove a GTi, and the first time I drove a Miata. They both were cases of "Ohhhh, I get it."

Never drove a Mini S, but I've driven my buddy's ex-gf's R50 Mini with a 6-speed which was still a hoot. I was planning on getting an S as my next car, but the wife had other ideas. Someday I'll get one and make it a track rat

The R53s are good fun. There's a guy in our track day group who tracks his R53.

I have an R55 (Clubman) turbo, and the build quality is a bit better than the first generation ones. I'll have to see how it holds up.

If I was single and had no kids in car seats I'd consider one.

I had an '04 for about six years. I still have odds and ends for it, if you end up buying it.

A warning: they are expensive to maintain. And the engine compartment is PACKED. Otherwise, it was fun, for a FWD. I had my at 205WHP, which with parasitic loss from the supercharger, should have been around 235HP compared to the claimed factory 165.

I still miss it sometimes.

Try to negotiate again in a few days, they might reconsider

We have a 2005 S and have had it since new. It's been a good car. Had to replace a leaking engine mount. Brakes are more difficult than my Evo. Fun ride most of the time though. Motors down the road and you can get a remarkable amount of stuff in the back. The giant sun roof is great, but noisy.

I have an '05 fair warning if its at the top end of your budget walk away. they are more expensive than a BMW to maintain. I love the car to death and wouldn't trade it for the world but damn is it expensive. To drop the oil pan is an 8 hour job and forced the engine to be removed.
